The South Coast Air Quality Management District invites you to participate in its Electric Lawn Mower exchange program, coming to Inglewood this Saturday, May 21st. You can trade-in your old gas-powered mower for a non-polluting electric model and save money while helping clean the air. It is official—the 2011 Founders Fund winner was announced at the Garden Club of America Annual Meeting in Indianapolis on Friday and is “beyond the Beetle: A Strategy of Diversity” proposed by the Worcester Garden Club in Zone I. The $25,000 award grant will be used for a demonstration arboretum in Green Hill Park where planting beetle resistant trees and providing information on preserving our forests will be an educational force.

As clubs begin to put together their own Founders Fund proposals or consider one for the future, it might be helpful to print out a copy of this winning project from the GCA website under the Founders Fund committee information for your chairman’s notebook.
